Paperphone is a flat, flexible, touch enabled Smartphone

No more phone drops, that causes cracks, and no more stiffness in your phone! And yes, what you heard was correct! A group of researchers at Queen’s University in Ontario Canada has unveiled a prototype of what they call a “Paperphone”. Paperphone is a ‘smart’phone, that is completely flexible like a paper, except the fact that you can’t crush the phone. The phone makes use of a e-paper display instead of the ordinary displays used in the other smartphone, which make them heavier.
They’ve demoed, a 3.7″ E Ink display with microchips that has the OD running on it. The device is embedded with sensors, that is 2″ bi-directional bend sensor. The bend sensor helps us in detecting the touches even when the device bends without using connectivity.

As far as I saw, the phone runs Android on it and the display is more of black and white.

A statement from Dr. Roel Vertegaal, lead researcher states:

“This design maximizes the flexibility and mobility of the display, while keeping its weight to a minimum”

The devs also has stated that the Paperphone will be unveiled at the Computer Human Interface Conference, which is to happen the next week!
