Android enters Pentagon [Army]

Google’s mobile operation system, Android has been ported to millions of devices in the last 2 years. From the latest statistics you can see the rapid growth and the potential user base have increased tremendously. With android being the most sought after OS for smartphones and due to its open source platform, its easy for developers to apply this OS for other purposes.

It’s the Pentagon that has decided to develop Android based smartphones and devices that can be used in battle fields.

The US Army has already begun developing it’s Mission Command apps, that is capable of brute force tracking, mapping and ground reporting. The Army has also planned to deploy Joint Battle Command-Platform [a.k.a. JBC-P], which is a military-friendly smartphone, that can work on a variety of existing radio networks. Reports also say that JBC-P will be tested in this year’s October and will probably go live by 2013.

We think it’s the best area to Test the Android platform to the fullest, all the factors faced while using on the battle field will be seriously assessed. This can definitely prove its metal among other OS platforms.
